Netflix Error N8157 3141

The error you're seeing is related to the Silverlight plugin, which Netflix uses to play movies and TV shows on your computer.

This error is usually caused by one of three things:

  • A computer setting preventing Silverlight from storing files it needs to play your movie or TV show
  • An issue with the Silverlight plugin itself
  • An issue with the content you're trying to play

To fix this error, follow the steps below for your Windows or Mac computer.


Steps for Windows

Reboot your computer
  1. Shut your computer down completely and restart it.
  2. Play your movie or TV show again.

Disable Audio Enhancements (Windows Vista/7)
  1. Click on the Start button.
  2. Select Control Panel.
  3. Click Sound.
    • If you do not see Sound, first click Hardware and Sound, then click Sound.
  4. On the Playback tab, click the Default Device (indicated by a green circle with a check mark inside).
  5. After selecting the Default Device, click on the Properties button.
  6. In the new window that appears, click on the Enhancements tab.
  7. Make sure that the box for Disable all enhancements or Disable all sound effects is checked.

Disable Audio Enhancements (Windows 8)
  1. While in Desktop Mode, click on the volume icon in the lower right hand corner.
  2. The volume adjustment window will appear, select the speaker icon at the top of that window.
  3. Once the speaker properties window has appeared, select the enhancements tab.
  4. Check the box marked Disable all Enhancements.
  5. Select Apply.

Reinstall your audio card drivers

Your audio card drivers may be out of date or corrupt.

Steps for Mac

Reboot your computer
  1. Shut your computer down completely and restart it.
  2. Play your movie or TV show again.
