How do I uninstall Silverlight on my Windows PC?

To uninstall Silverlight on your PC, follow the troubleshooting steps for your Windows operating system from the list below.

Note: Silverlight is the browser plug-in that allows you to watch Netflix. After you uninstall Silverlight, you must reinstall Silverlight to continue watching movies and TV shows on your computer.

Windows 8

  1. Quit all open browsers - including this window! You may want to print the following steps.
  2. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, then tap Settings.
    • If you're using a mouse, point to the lower right corner of the screen, then select Settings.
  3. Select Control Panel.
  4. Select Programs & Features.
  5. Locate and select Microsoft Silverlight, then select Uninstall.
    • If you also see WPF/E (codename) Community Technology Preview (Dec 2006) or WPF/E (codename) Community Technology Preview (Feb 2007), Remove/Uninstall these as well.
  6. Your PC will notify you when the uninstallation process is complete.

Windows 7 / Vista

  1. Quit all open browsers - including this window! You may want to print the following steps.
  2. Click on the Start button.
  3. Select Control Panel.
  4. Select Programs & Features.
  5. Locate and select Microsoft Silverlight, then select Uninstall.
    • If you also see WPF/E (codename) Community Technology Preview (Dec 2006) or WPF/E (codename) Community Technology Preview (Feb 2007), Remove/Uninstall these as well.
  6. Your PC will notify you when the uninstallation process is complete.

Windows XP

  1. Quit all open browsers - including this window! You may want to print the following steps.
  2. Click on the Start button.
  3. Select Control Panel.
  4. Select Add or Remove Programs.
  5. Locate and select Microsoft Silverlight, then select Remove.
    • If you also see WPF/E (codename) Community Technology Preview (Dec 2006) or WPF/E (codename) Community Technology Preview (Feb 2007), Remove/Uninstall these as well.
  6. Your PC will notify you when the uninstallation process is complete.
