Using Netflix on your Nintendo Wii

Welcome to Netflix on your Nintendo Wii! Use this article to learn about Netflix features and how to set up and sign out of your account. If you’re unsure if your device supports Netflix, follow the steps on the “Set up Netflix” tab to attempt to locate the Netflix app.

Netflix Features

Netflix is available on Nintendo Wii and Nintendo Wii U.

Nintendo Wii

Netflix streaming features for your Nintendo Wii include:

Navigation:
You can browse rows of movie posters, press B to bring up a list of all genres, or select the Search button to find movies.

Supported Regions:
Netflix is available in a number of countries across the world, and most devices will work wherever Netflix is available, though some older devices will only work in the country where they were purchased. See our Supported Region Map for details. If you are considering purchasing a new device, check with the manufacturer to see if it supports Netflix in your region.

The Netflix app is available for the Nintendo Wii in the following regions: US, Canada, Latin America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. 

Resolution:
Watch movies in 480p resolution.

Subtitles & Alternate Audio:
Select the Audio and Subtitles icon to turn on subtitles and alternate language audio if they are offered by the movie or TV show.

Kid-friendly content:
Select the Kids option from the main Netflix menu to view content appropriate for kids 12 and under.

Nintendo Wii U

Netflix streaming features for your Nintendo Wii U include:

Navigation:
You can browse rows of movie posters or select the Search button to find movies by title, director, or actor.

Supported Regions:
Netflix supports streaming on the Nintendo Wii U in all regions where Netflix is available.

Resolution:
Watch movies in 1080p resolution.

Subtitles & Alternate Audio:
Select the Audio and Subtitles icon during playback to turn on subtitles or alternate language audio if these options are offered by the movie or TV show.

Watch on GamePad:
During playback, tap the icon at the upper right corner of the screen to toggle video between the GamePad and your TV.

Set up Netflix

To connect your Nintendo Wii to your Netflix account, make sure you are on the home screen, then follow the steps for your device below.

Nintendo Wii

Download the Netflix app

  1. From the Wii Home Screen, select the Wii Shop Channel.
  2. Once launched, select Start, then select Start Shopping from the bottom of the screen.
  3. Select Wii Channels from the upper right corner of the screen.
  4. Locate the Netflix app and select it.
  5. On the Details screen, select Download: 0 Wii Points or Free: 0 Wii Points.
    • If Netflix has previously been installed on the Nintendo Wii, select Update: 0 Wii Points
  6. On the Download Location screen, select Wii System Memory.
  7. On the Selection Confirmation screen, select OK.
  8. On the Download Confirmation screen, select Yes.
  9. Once complete, you will see a Download Successful! screen. Select OK.
  10. Select Wii Menu from the lower left corner of the screen.

When the download is complete, continue with the steps below.

Sign in to Netflix

  1. From the Nintendo Wii Home Screen, select the Netflix Channel.
  2. Once launched, select Start to enter the channel.
  3. Select Sign In.
  4. Enter your Netflix email address and password, then select Continue.

Your device is now connected to your Netflix account. Enjoy!

Having trouble downloading Netflix?

If you're seeing a specific error message when attempting to download Netflix to your device, you may need to reach out to the device manufacturer for further assistance.

Nintendo Wii U

Download the Netflix app

  1. From the Wii U Gamepad, select the yellow shopping bag icon for the Nintendo eShop.
  2. In the Nintendo eShop, select the search box on the top right of the Gamepad.
  3. Search Netflix and click OK on the on-screen keyboard.
  4. Select Netflix from the search results.
  5. Select the Download button.
  6. Select Download again to confirm.
  7. Select Next to proceed.
  8. Select Download.
  9. Select Continue.

When the download is complete, continue with the steps below.

Sign in to Netflix

  1. From the Nintendo Wii U Home screen, select the Netflix icon.
  2. Once the app launches, select Member Sign In.
  3. Enter your Netflix email address and password then select Continue.

Your device is now connected to your Netflix account. Enjoy!

Having trouble downloading Netflix?

Sign out of Netflix

To sign out of the Netflix account on your device, follow the steps below.

Nintendo Wii

  1. Select the Wii icon in the lower left corner of the Wii Home screen.
  2. Select Data Management.
  3. Select Saved Data.
  4. Select Wii.
  5. Select Netflix.
  6. Select Erase.
  7. Select Yes.
  8. Press Back until you return to the Wii menu.

If you no longer have direct access to this device, you can disconnect it from the Netflix website.

Nintendo Wii U

  1. Begin from the Netflix home screen.
  2. Navigate up and select Settings or the Gear icon .
  3. Select Sign out.
  4. Select Yes to confirm.
  5. You will now be given the option to sign in as a different Netflix member.

If you no longer have direct access to this device, you can disconnect it from the Netflix website.
