Using Netflix on your Nintendo Wii

Welcome to Netflix on your Nintendo Wii! Use this article to learn about Netflix features and how to set up and sign out of your account. If you’re unsure if your device supports Netflix, follow the steps on the “Set up Netflix” tab to attempt to locate the Netflix app.

Netflix is available on Nintendo Wii and Nintendo Wii U.

Nintendo has announced that it will close the Wii Shop Channel on the Nintendo Wii in 2019. As a result, all video streaming services on Wii, including the Netflix Channel, are no longer available to new members as of July 31, 2018. Nintendo Wii U users are not impacted by this change.

The Netflix Channel is no longer available to new Netflix members as of July 31, 2018.

Netflix streaming features for your Nintendo Wii include:

Supported Regions
Netflix supports streaming on the Nintendo Wii in the following regions: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Latin America, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

Navigation
You can browse rows of movie posters, press B to bring up a list of all genres, or select the Search button to find movies.

Resolution
Watch TV shows and movies in 480p resolution.

Subtitles & Alternate Audio
Select the Audio and Subtitles icon to turn on subtitles and alternate language audio if they are offered by the TV show or movie.

Kid-friendly content
Select the Kids option from the main Netflix menu to view content appropriate for kids 12 and under.

Nintendo Wii U

Netflix streaming features for your Nintendo Wii U include:

Supported Regions
Netflix supports streaming on the Nintendo Wii U in the US, Canada, Latin America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.

Navigation
You can browse rows of movie posters or select the Search button to find movies by title, director, or actor.

Resolution
Stream TV shows and movies up to 1080p. Titles with an HD symbol will stream in high definition if your internet connection supports 5 megabits per second or more.

Subtitles & Alternate Audio
Select the Audio and Subtitles icon during playback to turn on subtitles or alternate language audio if they are offered by the TV show or movie.

To connect your Nintendo Wii to your Netflix account, make sure you are on the home screen, then follow the steps for your device below.

Nintendo Wii

Nintendo has announced that it will close the Wii Shop Channel on the Nintendo Wii in 2019. As a result, all video streaming services on Wii, including the Netflix Channel, are no longer available to new members as of July 31, 2018. Members who previously downloaded and deleted the Netflix Channel are still able to re-download the app.

Download the Netflix app

  1. Open the Wii Shop Channel.

  2. From the main screen, go to Titles You’ve Downloaded to locate the Netflix app.

  3. Select the Netflix Channel to download it.

When the download is complete, continue with the steps below.

Sign in to Netflix

  1. From the Nintendo Wii Home screen, select the Netflix Channel.

  2. Once launched, select Start to enter the channel.

  3. Select Sign In.

  4. Enter your Netflix email address and password, then select Continue.

Your device is now connected to your Netflix account. Enjoy!

Having trouble downloading Netflix?

If you're seeing a specific error message when you attempt to download Netflix to your device, you may need to reach out to the device manufacturer for further assistance.

Nintendo Wii U

Download the Netflix app

Please note that Netflix is only available on the Nintendo Wii U in the US, Canada, Latin America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.

  1. From the Wii U GamePad, select the yellow shopping bag icon for the Nintendo eShop.

  2. In the Nintendo eShop, select the search box in the upper right corner of the GamePad.

  3. Search Netflix and select OK on the on-screen keyboard.

  4. Select Netflix from the search results.

  5. Select Download.

  6. Select Download again to confirm.

  7. Select Next to proceed.

  8. Select Download.

  9. Select Continue.

When the download is complete, continue with the steps below.

Sign in to Netflix

Note:
Use the Wii U GamePad buttons to make selections and control Netflix. The touchscreen cannot be used to control Netflix.
  1. From the Nintendo Wii U Home screen, select the Netflix icon.

  2. Once the app launches, select Member Sign In.

  3. Enter your Netflix email address and password, then select Continue.

Your device is now connected to your Netflix account. Enjoy!

Having trouble downloading Netflix?

To sign out of the Netflix account on your device, follow the steps below.

Nintendo Wii

  1. Select the Wii icon in the lower left corner of the Wii Home screen.

  2. Select Data Management.

  3. Select Saved Data.

  4. Select Wii.

  5. Select Netflix.

  6. Select Erase.

  7. Select Yes.

  8. Press Back until you return to the Wii menu.

  9. You will now have the option to sign in as a different Netflix member.

If you no longer have direct access to this device, you can disconnect it from the Netflix website.

Nintendo Wii U

Note:
Use the Wii U GamePad buttons to make selections and control Netflix. The touchscreen cannot be used to control Netflix.
  1. Begin from the Netflix home screen.

  2. Navigate up and select Settings or the gear icon .

  3. Select Sign out.

  4. Select Yes to confirm.

  5. You will now have the option to sign in as a different Netflix member.

If you no longer have direct access to this device, you can disconnect it from the Netflix website.
