Get the most out of your Red Dead Redemption experience with these tips.
Explore thoroughly
Take your time traveling and exploring. Hidden treasures, side missions, and random events can be found all over the map.
Talk to non-playable characters (NPCs) in towns—they often have useful information or side quests.
Use cover in combat
Always use cover during gunfights. Move between cover points to avoid being flanked.
Use the auto-aim feature if you’re new to third-person shooters, or adjust aim settings in the menu for your comfort.
Master Dead Eye
Dead Eye slows down time and allows you to mark targets for precision shots.
Upgrade it by completing story missions and challenges.
Save Dead Eye for tough enemies, large groups, or critical moments.
When to Use: Useful when outnumbered or overwhelmed by enemies, and essential in duels.
How to Activate: Tap the right button to enter Dead Eye. The screen will turn yellow and orange, indicating that time has slowed.
Limitations: An in-game meter determines how long you can remain in Dead Eye. You must wait for it to replenish before using it again.
Note: Some Consumables help replenish your Dead Eye meter, check the Consumables section for more info.
Manage your resources
Regularly check your ammo, health, and Dead Eye meters.
Collect and use tonics, food, and medicine to restore health and stamina.
Loot enemies, search chests, and visit stores to replenish supplies.
Save often
Use beds in safehouses or camps to save your progress.
Save before major missions or when exploring dangerous areas to avoid losing progress.
Removing a bounty
A bounty appears when you commit a crime such as theft or murder. To clear it, you have two main options:
Lay low: Avoid lawmen and bounty hunters while staying out of trouble. Over time, the bounty will naturally decrease.
Use a Pardon Letter: Visit a local wire station and submit a Pardon Letter to immediately remove the bounty.
