Available outfits and how to get them

You can get many different outfits throughout the game. In general, John can change into any unlocked outfit while in a Safehouse.

Red Dead Redemption

Cowboy Outfit
- A dark cowboy hat with an eagle feather, black gloves, black jeans, dark cowboy boots with spurs, and a denim waistcoat over a light-brown collared shirt.
- How to get: This is John’s default outfit.
Duster Coat
- It’s a Cowboy Outfit with a brown leather duster over it.
- How to get: This can be obtained once you’ve reached the “Peacemaker” honor level.
Mexican Poncho
- Cowboy Outfit with a different shirt and hat. Pants are tucked into boots.
- Perk: Walton's gangsters won't attack unless provoked.
- How to get: 6 Scraps are needed to complete the outfit:
  - Search Solomon's Folly (found in the basement of the destroyed house).
  - Complete the Horsebreaking job in Ridgewood Farm.
  - Eliminate all other players in a game of poker in Armadillo.
  - Claim a Walton's Gang Bounty alive. Poster appears in Armadillo.
  - Defend the residents of Cholla Springs from Walton's Gang. Tracking this scrap will trigger the event.
  - Purchase at the tailor in Thieves' Landing.
Bollard Twins Outfit
- Cowboy Outfit with leather chaps and a red bandana unfurled onto Marston's chest.
- Perk: Bollard Twins gangsters won't attack unless provoked.
- How to get: The player can first discover the outfit and its requirements by looting the corpses of enemies found in the mission "Justice in Pike's Basin."
  1. Search Thieves' Landing (inside a chest, in the office of the warehouse by the pier).
  2. Complete a Nightwatch job in MacFarlane's Ranch.
  3. Win at Horseshoes in MacFarlane's Ranch.
  4. Claim a Bollard Twins gang bounty alive.
  5. Defend residents of Hennigan's Stead from the Bollard Twins gang.
  6. Purchase at the tailor in Thieves' Landing (normally costs $150).
Treasure Hunter Outfit
- A completely different outfit; a dirty pink shirt and dirty dark pants.
- Perk: Treasure Hunters won't attack unless provoked.
- How to get: You must get 6 Scraps by completing various tasks in order to unlock the outfit. Progress towards completion can be tracked in the Outfits menu.
  - Search Silent Stead (in a container in a small house just northwest of the intersection).
  - Complete Stranger side-mission "California."
  - Make a profit playing Blackjack at Rathskeller Fork. (Winning any size bet will earn you this scrap, simply gain at least one chip more than you started with when you began.)
  - Claim a Treasure Hunter bounty alive (can most likely be found at Rathskeller Fork).
  - Complete Gaptooth Breach Hideout.
  - Purchase at the tailor in Thieves' Landing (bought for $250).
Bandito Outfit
- Cowboy Outfit with a sombrero, different boots, and two bandoliers.
- Perk: Banditos won't attack unless provoked.
- How to get: To unlock, the player has to complete the following challenges:
  - Search Sidewinder Gulch. Looking at the map, the player needs to head to the more spacious area (closest to Plata Grande to the east) with three black squares. Inside this area is a camp, in which the tent on the far east side contains the Scrap in a chest.
  - Complete a Nightwatch job in Chuparosa.
  - Defeat all players in a round of Liar's Dice in Casa Madrugada.
  - Capture a Bandito Bounty alive (can be obtained at Escalera, Chuparosa, and El Presidio).
  - Defend Mexican residents from Bandito attacks.
  - Purchase at the general store in Chuparosa.
Reyes' Rebels Outfit
- Mexican Poncho, but with a different poncho. A headband replaces the hat.
- Perk: The Mexican Army and law posses won't pursue Marston.
- How to get: Get it by completing the following requirements:
  - Search Sepulcro, just west of the eastern-most corner of the cemetery in a chest (along the southern wall inside the cemetery).
  - Complete the Stranger side-mission "Poppycock."
  - Complete a Horsebreaking job in Chuparosa.
  - Complete the Stranger side-mission "Love is the Opiate."
  - Win at Five Finger Fillet in Torquemada (defeat all opponents).
  - Purchase the Scrap at the General Store in Escalera.
    Note: Scrap isn't available to be purchased until the player has completed the Abraham Reyes mission "An Appointed Time."
Elegant Suit
- Cowboy Outfit, but a formal waistcoat, blazer, and tie replace John's default waistcoat and shirt. Gloves are removed.
- Perk: Marston can cheat at poker and earn a trophy.
- How to get: It can be bought from the Thieves' Landing tailor.
Bureau Uniform
- Elegant Suit, but the formal waistcoat and tie are replaced with black ones, and Jack wears a bowler hat.
- Perk: Marston receives amnesty from the law.
- How to get: Reach 100% game completion.
US Marshal Uniform
- Cowboy Outfit, but with a black Marshal's waistcoat, a blue collared shirt, and different boots.
- Perk: U.S. Marshals and law posses won't pursue Marston.
- How to get: Beat all U.S. gang hideouts in 24 in-game hours. If the player has already beaten the hideouts, gangs will return, though the outfit must be obtained while playing as Jack.
US Army Uniform
- Marston wears a U.S. Army Uniform with his black gloves.
- Perk: Citizens treat Marston respectfully.
- How to get: You must get 6 Scraps by completing various tasks in order to unlock the outfit. Progress towards completion can be tracked in the Outfits menu.
  - Search Aurora Basin. The Scrap can be found in a small chest inside the cabin, near the small lake.
  - Win an Arm Wrestling match in the Pacific Union Railroad Camp. You have to beat as many opponents as there are at the table, in a 'best of three' to earn this Scrap.
  - Eliminate all other players in a game of poker in Blackwater (can be either the regular at the Saloon's entrance or High Stakes at the Hotel's second floor).
  - Successfully complete the Stranger side-mission "Lights, Camera, Action."
  - Successfully completed a Nightwatch job in Blackwater.
  - Purchase the Scrap from the tailor in Blackwater.
    Note: Scrap is only available for purchase after completing the mission "The Last Enemy That Shall Be Destroyed."
Legend of the West
- Cowboy Outfit, but a black waistcoat and duster replace John's blue waistcoat. Pants are tucked into boots.
- Perk: More Dead-Eye than usual.
- How to get: Complete all ambient challenges.
Rancher Outfit
- A grey shirt, a grey waistcoat, brown rancher pants, rancher boots, and John's usual hat.
- How to get: To get this outfit, you must complete "The Outlaw's Return" mission.
Cowboy Outfit (Jack)
- Same as John's, but with a white collared shirt, beige jacket, and red bandana. Pants are tucked into boots. Gloves and spurs removed.
- How to get: Complete "The Last Enemy That Shall Be Destroyed" mission.
Deadly Assassin
- Legend of the West with an eyepatch and a shorter jacket.
- How to get: Gather 5 Scraps:
  - Search inside Coot's Chapel.
  - Complete Twin Rocks Hideout.
  - Kill or capture Mo van Barr.
  - Win a duel in Armadillo.
  - Complete the "American Appetites" Stranger side mission.
Expert Hunter
- Winter clothing made from various animal pelts.
- Perk: Receive double the hides when skinning animals.
- How to get: You must get 5 Scraps by completing challenges to unlock the outfit. You can get the Scraps in any order.
  - Harvest 5,000 lbs of meat.
  - Kill a cougar with a stick of Dynamite.
  - Kill and skin 8 rattlesnakes.
  - Kill the legendary Jackalope.
  - Complete "Deadalus and Son" Stranger side-mission.
Savvy Merchant
- Cowboy Outfit, but with a flat cap and a blue coat.
- Perk: Can buy guns/ammo for half the cost.
- How to get:
  - Win $1,000 total from gambling.
  - Buy or sell an item at every Gunsmith.
  - Gather $200 worth of herbs.
  - Execute 20 people.
  - Complete "The Prohibitionist" Stranger side-mission.
Union Suit
- A white, one-piece Union suit.
- How to get: A plain version is worn during the mission "Love in the Time of Plague." You'll get a version that includes a bandolier, a satchel, rifle and sidearm holsters following the mission.
