How to change the appearance of subtitles and closed captions

You can change the font, size, shadow, and background color of subtitles and closed captions.

From a web browser

  1. Go to your Netflix Account page.

  2. From the Profile & Parental Controls section, select a profile.

  3. Select Change for Subtitle appearance.

The subtitle appearance option isn't available in some countries with the following primary languages, even if a profile is set to a different language: Arabic, Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, Romanian, Thai, and Traditional Chinese. Selected appearance options also might not show on some older devices.
  4. Choose your subtitle appearance settings.

  5. Select Save.

  6. Open the Netflix app on your device to start watching with your new subtitle appearance.

If you're using a TV, open the Netflix app on your TV and select Settings, then Get Help, then Reload for the changes to take effect.

From a TV or streaming device

Connected TV devices don't offer all of the subtitle appearance options available from a web browser.
