Netflix is in the wrong language

If your audio, subtitles, or Netflix profile are entirely in the wrong language or a preferred language is missing on a title, it may point to an issue with the settings on your profile or device. Follow the instructions below to adjust your language settings.

Change your Netflix profile language

To change the language of the Netflix experience on your profile:

  1. Sign In to Netflix on a computer or mobile browser.

  2. Select Manage Profiles.

  3. Select your preferred profile.

  4. Select your preferred language from the Language dropdown.

    • If your preferred language is already selected, select English and sign out, then repeat the steps above.

  5. Return to the device experiencing the issue and sign out and sign back in to save this setting.

Change your subtitle language

Due to the large number of languages available, Netflix only displays the 5-7 languages most relevant to you while streaming. Downloaded titles will only display the 2 languages most relevant to you.

If your preferred subtitle language is not listed as an option:

  1. Sign In to Netflix on a computer or mobile browser.

  2. Select Manage Profiles.

  3. Select your preferred profile.

  4. Select your preferred subtitle language from the Language dropdown.

  5. Try to play your TV show or movie with your preferred subtitles again.

If you find that you have to reset your subtitles every time you try to watch, play a title with a maturity rating of teens or above set to your preferred subtitle language. This will save your settings for future viewing.

Change your audio language

Due to the large number of languages available, Netflix only displays the 5-7 languages most relevant to you while streaming. Downloaded titles will only display the 2 languages most relevant to you. To change your audio language, select the appropriate option below.

Apple TV 2 or Apple TV 3

If your audio is not playing in your preferred language:

  1. From your Apple TV home screen, select Settings.

  2. Select Audio & Language.

  3. Select your preferred language.

  4. Return to Netflix and play your TV show or movie again.

If your title still doesn’t play with your preferred audio, alternate audio may not be available in your language for that specific title.

All other devices

If your preferred audio language is not listed as an option:

  1. Sign In to Netflix on a computer or mobile browser.

  2. Select Manage Profiles.

  3. Select your preferred profile.

  4. Select your preferred audio language from the Language dropdown.

  5. Try to play your TV show or movie with your preferred audio again.

If your title still doesn’t play with your preferred audio, alternate audio may not be available in your language for that specific title.
