How to change the language on Netflix

If you want to change the language for audio, subtitles, or your Netflix profile, or if a preferred language is missing on a TV show or movie, follow the instructions below.

Change your Netflix profile language

  1. On a computer or mobile browser, sign in to Netflix.com.

  2. Select Manage Profiles.

  3. Select a profile.

  4. Select a language.

    • If your preferred language is already selected, select English, then sign out and repeat the steps above.

  5. To save the language setting, return to the device experiencing the issue. Sign out and then sign back in.

Change the subtitle language

Netflix shows 5-7 subtitle languages based on your language settings and location. For downloaded titles, Netflix shows the 2 most relevant languages.

If your preferred subtitle language isn't listed as an option:

  1. On a computer or mobile browser, sign in to Netflix.com.

  2. Select Manage Profiles.

  3. Select a profile.

  4. Select a language.

  5. Try to play the TV show or movie with your preferred subtitles again.

If the TV show or movie still doesn’t show subtitles in the right language, they may not be available in that language. If you have to reset your subtitles every time you try to watch, play a title with a maturity rating of Teens or above set to your preferred subtitle language. This will save your settings for future viewing.

Change the audio language

Netflix shows 5-7 subtitle languages based on your language settings and location. For downloaded titles, Netflix shows the 2 most relevant languages. To change your audio language, select an option below.

Apple TV 2 or Apple TV 3

  1. From your Apple TV home screen, select Settings.

  2. Select Audio & Language.

  3. Select a language.

  4. Return to Netflix and play your TV show or movie again.

If the TV show or movie still doesn’t play in the language you selected, the audio may not be available in your language for that title.

All other devices

  1. On a computer or mobile browser, sign in to Netflix.com.

  2. Select Manage Profiles.

  3. Select a profile.

  4. Select an audio language.

  5. Try to play your TV show or movie with your preferred audio again.

If the TV show or movie still doesn’t play in the language you selected, the audio may not be available in your language for that specific title.

If you have to reset your audio every time you try to watch, play a title with a maturity rating of Teens or above set to your preferred audio language. This will save your settings for future viewing.
