How do profiles work on my Netflix account?

Profiles allow different members of your household to have their own personalized Netflix experience, built around the TV shows and movies they enjoy. You can have up to five individual profiles within a single Netflix account.

Note:
Profiles are not available on devices produced before 2013.

Each profile allows for its own:

  • Personalized TV show and movie suggestions

  • Recently Watched list

  • Ratings and Reviews

  • Language preference

  • Playback settings

  • Maturity level

  • My List

Most devices allow you to create and delete profiles. If your device asks you to input a code at Netflix.com/Activate, it does not currently support profiles. Devices that do not currently support profiles or ask for an activation code will use the account owner profile by default.

How do I create a profile?

You can add up to five profiles to your account by visiting the Netflix website and selecting Manage Profiles from the My Profile section of your Account. Please note that each profile must have a different name.

How do I delete or edit a profile?

You can delete or edit a profile by visiting the Netflix website and selecting the edit icon on the profile you want to change under Manage Profiles. You can select the profile's language and maturity level or delete the profile entirely from this screen.

Please note that once you delete a profile, the viewing history for that profile will no longer be available. More information on managing your viewing history can be found at How do I hide titles from my viewing history?

The main profile on your Netflix account cannot be deleted.

How do I set parental controls on profiles?

You can set parental controls on individual profiles from the Manage Profiles page of the Netflix website. You will need to select the edit icon on the profile you want to change, then select your desired parental control setting from the Allowed TV shows and movies drop-down menu.

You can also make a profile kid-friendly by selecting Kid? on the edit page of that profile.

Note:
Profiles are not currently password protected.
