How does Netflix decide the maturity rating on movies and tv shows?

Netflix gathers maturity ratings based on country and regions. The rating is set by a standards orginazation who determines whether or not the material is appropriate for kids. If for whatever reason a movie, TV show or other media has not been rated by a known standards organization, Netflix will use its reasonable judgment to determine whether or not the material is appropriate for children.

The movie and television show ratings that usually fall under each Netflix maturity level vary by region:
