Using Netflix on your Xbox

Welcome to Netflix on your Xbox! Use this article to learn about Netflix features and how to set up and sign out of your account. If you're unsure if your device supports Netflix, follow the steps on the Set up Netflix tab to attempt to locate the Netflix app.

Netflix Features

Netflix is available on Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Xbox 360

Netflix Streaming Features for your Microsoft Xbox 360:
  • Supported Regions: Netflix is available on Xbox 360 in all regions that have both Netflix and Xbox Live service.
  • Navigation: Scroll up and down to browse through genres tailored specifically for you. Press Y to search for a specific title. If you have the Xbox Kinect with your Xbox 360, say "Xbox" to see a list of voice commands.
  • Resolution: Stream movies up to 720p. Titles with an HD symbol will stream in high definition if your Internet connection supports 5 megabits per second or more.
  • Subtitles & Alternate Audio: Start playback and then select the Audio and subtitles icon to turn on subtitles if they are available for that movie or TV show. Select titles will also be available for playback in Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 Surround Sound from this screen if your Internet connection speed is 5 megabits per second or more.

Xbox One

Netflix streaming features on supported devices include:

Supported Regions:
Netflix is available on Xbox One in all regions that have both Netflix and Xbox Live service.

Navigation:
Scroll up and down to browse through genres tailored specifically for you. If you have the Xbox Kinect with your Xbox One, say "Xbox" to see a list of voice commands.

  • Search: Pressing Y on your Xbox One controller from within the Netflix app will bring you to the search page.
  • Profiles, Kids Section, Sign Out: Pressing B within the Netflix app takes you to the Netflix Menu, allowing you to change profiles, switch to the Kids section, or reach the settings page to sign out of your Netflix account.

Resolution:
Stream movies up to 1080p. Titles with an HD symbol will stream in high definition if your Internet connection supports 5 megabits per second or more.

Subtitles & Alternate Audio:
Start a movie or TV show and select the Audio and subtitles icon to turn on subtitles if they are available. Select titles will also be available in Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 Surround Sound from this screen if your Internet connection speed is 5 megabits per second or more.

Xbox One S

Resolution:
Stream movies up to 4k. Titles with an Ultra HD symbol will stream in ultra high definition if your Internet connection supports 25 megabits per second or more.

Start a movie or TV show and select the Audio and subtitles icon to turn on subtitles if they are available. Select titles will also be available in Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 Surround Sound from this screen if your Internet connection speed is 5 megabits per second or more.

Set up Netflix

To connect your Xbox to your Netflix account, make sure you are signed in to your Xbox LIVE account, then follow the steps for your device below. Visit Microsoft's support site if you need help connecting to an Xbox LIVE account.

Xbox 360

Download the Netflix app

Before you get started with the steps below, make sure you are signed into your Xbox Live account. If you need any further assistance with this, please visit Microsoft's support site.

  1. From the Xbox 360 Dashboard, navigate to Apps.
  2. Select the Netflix tile to begin downloading the app.

When the download is complete, continue with the steps below.

Sign in to Netflix

  • From the Xbox 360 Dashboard, navigate to the Apps section, then select the Netflix tile.
  • Select Sign In.​
    • If you do not see Sign In, select Yes on the Are you a member of Netflix? screen.
    • If you are not yet a member, set up your membership.
  • Enter your Netflix email address and password.
  • Select Sign In.

Your device is now connected to your Netflix account. Enjoy!

Having trouble downloading Netflix?

Xbox One

Download the Netflix app

Please note that Netflix is only available on Xbox One in regions that have both Netflix and Xbox Live service.

  1. Begin from the Home screen on your Xbox One.
  2. Scroll right to access the Store.
  3. In the Apps section, select Netflix.
    • Note: If you do not see Netflix, select Search all apps to search for Netflix.
  4. Select Install.
  5. Once the app has finished downloading, select Launch to sign in to Netflix.

When the download is complete, continue with the steps below.

Sign in to Netflix

  1. Select Netflix from the Home screen.
  2. Select Member Sign In.
  3. Enter your Netflix email address and password.
  4. Select Sign In.

Your device is now connected to your Netflix account. Enjoy!

Sign out of Netflix

To sign out of the Netflix account on your device, follow the steps below.

Xbox 360

Your Netflix account is associated with any Xbox Gamertag that has used the service. Use one of the following options to associate your Gamertag with a different Netflix account:

Sign out of Netflix
  1. Begin from the Netflix home screen.
  2. Navigate up and select Settings or the Gear icon .
  3. Select Sign out.
  4. Select Yes to confirm.
  5. You will now be given the option to sign in as a different Netflix member.

If you cannot locate Settings or the Gear icon:

  1. From within the Netflix app, use the arrows on your remote to enter the following sequence:
    • Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Up, Up, Up, Up.
  2. Select Sign out, Start Over, Deactivate, or Reset.
  3. You will now be given the option to sign in as a different Netflix member.

If you wish to disconnect your Netflix account from all Gamertags associated with your membership, you can disconnect all devices from the Netflix website.

Xbox One

Sign out of Netflix
  1. Launch the Netflix app from the Xbox One home screen.
  2. Once inside the Netflix app, locate the Menu Row or press the B button on the controller.
  3. From the on-screen menu, select the gear icon () on the right.
  4. Select Log Out.
  5. Sign back in and try Netflix again.

If you cannot locate the Gear icon:

  1. From within the Netflix app, use the arrows on your remote to enter the following sequence:
    • Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Up, Up, Up, Up.
  2. Select Sign out, Start Over, Deactivate, or Reset.
  3. Sign back in and try Netflix again.

Xbox One S

  1. Begin from the Netflix home screen.
  2. Navigate up and select Settings or the Gear icon .
  3. Select Sign out.
  4. Select Yes to confirm.

Netflix in Ultra HD

Netflix is available in Ultra HD on the Xbox One S. To stream in Ultra HD, you will need:

  • A 2014 or newer Ultra HD TV with the Netflix app.
  • A plan that supports streaming in Ultra HD. You can check which plan you're currently on at netflix.com/ChangePlan.
  • A steady Internet connection speed of 25 megabits per second or higher.
  • Streaming quality set to High or Automatic. More information about video quality settings can be found in our Playback Settings article.
