How to use Netflix on your Xbox

Use this article to learn about Netflix features and how to set up and sign out of your account. If you don't know if your device supports Netflix, follow the steps in the "Set Up Netflix" section.

To connect your Xbox to your Netflix account, make sure you are signed in to your Xbox LIVE account, then follow the steps for your device below. Visit Microsoft's support site if you need help connecting to an Xbox LIVE account.

Microsoft retired the Xbox 360 Store on July 29, 2024. New Netflix app downloads aren't supported.

Sign in to Netflix

  1. From the Xbox 360 Dashboard, navigate to the Apps section, then select the Netflix tile.

  2. Select Sign In.

    • If you do not see Sign In, select Yes on the Are you a member of Netflix? screen.

    • If you are not yet a member, set up your membership.

  3. Enter your Netflix email address and password.

  4. Select Sign In.

Your device is now connected to your Netflix account.

Download the Netflix app

Please note that Netflix is only available on Xbox One in regions that have both Netflix and Xbox Live service.

  1. Begin from the Home screen on your Xbox One.

  2. Scroll right to access the Store.

  3. In the Apps section, select Netflix.

    Note:If you do not see Netflix, select Search all apps to search for Netflix.

  4. Select Install.

  5. Once the app has finished downloading, select Launch to sign in to Netflix.

When the download is complete, continue with the steps below.

Sign in to Netflix

  1. Select Netflix from the Home screen.

  2. Select Member Sign In.

  3. Enter your Netflix email address and password.

  4. Select Sign In.

Your device is now connected to your Netflix account.

Download the Netflix app

Please note that Netflix is only available on Xbox Series X/S in regions that have both Netflix and Xbox Live service.

  1. Begin from the Home screen on your Xbox Series X/S.

  2. Scroll right to access the Store.

  3. In the Apps section, select Netflix.

    Note:If you do not see Netflix, select Search all apps to search for Netflix.

  4. Select Install.

  5. Once the app has finished downloading, select Launch to sign in to Netflix.

When the download is complete, continue with the steps below.

Sign in to Netflix

  1. Select Netflix from the Home screen.

  2. Select Member Sign In.

  3. Enter your Netflix email address and password.

  4. Select Sign In.

Your device is now connected to your Netflix account.

Netflix is available on Xbox game consoles. Netflix streaming features on Xbox includes:

Navigation
Scroll to browse genres. Press Y to search for a specific title. If you have the Xbox Kinect with your Xbox 360, say "Xbox" to see a list of voice commands.

Resolution
Stream movies up to 720p. Titles with an HD symbol will stream in high definition if your Internet connection supports 5 megabits per second or more.

Subtitles & alternate audio
Start playback and then select the Audio and subtitles icon to turn on subtitles if they are available for that movie or TV show. Select titles will also be available for playback in Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound from this screen if your internet connection speed is 5 megabits per second or more.

Supported regions
Netflix is available on Xbox One in all regions that have both Netflix and Xbox Live service.

Navigation
Scroll up and down to browse through genres tailored specifically for you. If you have the Xbox Kinect with your Xbox One, say "Xbox" to see a list of voice commands.

  • Search: Pressing Y on your Xbox One controller from within the Netflix app will bring you to the search page.

  • Profiles, Kids Section, Sign Out: Pressing B within the Netflix app takes you to the Netflix Menu, allowing you to change profiles, switch to the Kids section, or reach the settings page to sign out of your Netflix account.

Resolution
Stream movies up to 1080p HD on Xbox One. Titles with an HD symbol will stream in high definition if your Internet connection supports 5 megabits per second or more.

Stream movies up to 4K Ultra HD on Xbox One S and Xbox One X. Titles with an Ultra HD symbol will stream in ultra high definition if your Internet connection supports 15 megabits per second or more.

Subtitles & alternate audio
Start a movie or TV show and select the Audio and subtitles icon to turn on subtitles if they are available. Select titles will also be available in Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound from this screen if your Internet connection speed is 5 megabits per second or more.

Note:To get Ultra HD make sure your device resolution settings allow 4K video output.

Netflix is available in Dolby Vision and HDR on select Xbox game consoles. To stream in Dolby Vision or HDR, you will need:

  • A Netflix plan that supports streaming in Ultra HD.

  • A streaming device that supports either Dolby Vision or HDR and Netflix.

  • A smart TV that supports either Dolby Vision or HDR10 connected to your device via an HDMI port that supports HDCP 2.2 or later (usually the HDMI 1 port).

  • A steady internet connection speed of 15 megabits per second or higher.

  • Streaming quality set to High.

You can watch Netflix in Dolby Vision and HDR on the following Xbox models:

  • Xbox One S

  • Xbox One X

  • Xbox Series S

  • Xbox Series X

Note:To get HDR make sure your device resolution settings allow HDR video output.

To sign out of the Netflix account on your device, follow these steps.

Your Netflix account is associated with any Xbox Gamertag that has used the service. To associate your Gamertag with a different Netflix account:

  1. Go to the Netflix home screen, then go left to open the menu.

  2. At the bottom, select Get Help > Sign out > Yes.

  3. Sign back in, then try Netflix again.

If your device is on an error screen:

  1. Select More Details.

  2. Select Sign out or Reset.

  3. Sign back in, then try Netflix again.

If you can't find Get Help or Sign out:

  1. Using your remote, press these buttons in this order: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Up, Up, Up, Up.

  2. On the menu that appears, select Sign out, Reset, or Deactivate.

If you wish to disconnect your Netflix account from all Gamertags associated with your membership, you can disconnect all devices from the Netflix website.

  1. Go to the Netflix home screen, then go left to open the menu.

  2. At the bottom, select Get Help > Sign out > Yes.

  3. Sign back in, then try Netflix again.

If your device is on an error screen:

  1. Select More Details.

  2. Select Sign out or Reset.

  3. Sign back in, then try Netflix again.

If you can't find Get Help or Sign out:

  1. Using your remote, press these buttons in this order: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Up, Up, Up, Up.

  2. On the menu that appears, select Sign out, Reset, or Deactivate.
