How to use a mobile device to watch Netflix on a TV

You can connect your Android or Apple mobile device to many TVs. This allows you to watch content playing on the Netflix mobile app on your TV. Below you'll find different ways to connect your mobile device to your TV.

If you're looking to cast from your mobile phone or tablet to your TV or a device connected to your TV, check the list of compatible devices below. If it isn't listed, you'll need to use a physical remote to navigate the Netflix app.

Netflix supports casting to:

  • Chromecast 3rd gen or older (did not come with a physical remote)

  • Select cast-enabled Vizio TVs

  • Select cast-enabled Compal TVs

If you're on an ad-supported experience, you won't be able to use your TV as a display for Netflix content playing on your mobile device (casting or mirroring).

To use your mobile phone or tablet and cast to a compatible device:

  1. On your mobile device, open the Netflix app. You may need to sign in first.

  2. Tap on a profile.

  3. In the upper right corner, tap the Cast icon .

  4. Tap the device you want to cast to.

  5. Tap on a show or movie to play it on your TV.

You can fast forward, rewind, pause, or change the audio or subtitle settings from your mobile device.

To get started, follow the steps for your device.

You can connect your Android phone or tablet to your TV or display using a video cable or adapter to watch TV shows and movies.

Note:While connecting an Android phone or tablet to a display, you may see black bars around the video while playing downloaded TV shows and movies due to the video format.

Before connecting your phone or tablet, check what port your TV or display uses:

  • If your TV or display uses HDMI port, you'll need to use a video cable adapter that supports video playback.

  • If your TV or display has a USB-C or Thunderbolt port, you can connect it using cable that came with your phone or tablet. Other USB-C and Thunderbolt cables will work with Netflix, but must support high-resolution video playback (USB version 3.1 or later).

Automatically playing the next episode isn't supported while using a video cable or adapter.

Using AirPlay to watch Netflix on a TV or other display is not supported.

You can connect your iPhone or iPad to your TV or display using a video cable or adapter to watch TV shows and movies.
