Black and white video

If you get black and white video when you try to watch a TV show or movie, it usually means that information stored on your device needs to be refreshed. Follow the troubleshooting steps for your device to resolve the issue.

Smart TV

Contact your device manufacturer

Your TV's picture settings may be causing Netflix to display in black and white. Contact your device manufacturer for help adjusting these settings.

Windows or Mac computer

Check if other TV shows or movies work

If you get the same problem with other TV shows or movies, skip these steps.

If other TV shows or movies play normally, you can tell us about the problem.

  1. Using a web browser, go to Viewing Activity in your account.

  2. In the list, find the TV show or movie with the issue and click Report a Problem.

  3. Follow the instructions, then click Report Problem.

Shut down your computer

  1. Shut down your computer through the menu:

    • For Mac: At the top left, click the Apple menu > Shut Down.

    • For Windows: From the Start menu, click Power > Shut down.

    • For Chromebook: From the bottom right, click on the time > Sign out > Shut down.

  2. Leave your computer off for at least 10 seconds.

  3. Turn it back on, then try Netflix again.

Reinstall your video card drivers

Your video card drivers may be out of date or corrupt.

  • Uninstall and reinstall your video card driver. Your owner's manual or video card manufacturer's website can help.
