Netflix is a prepaid subscription service that allows you to watch unlimited TV shows and movies on all of your devices, from laptops to TVs, phones, and tablets. Credit and Debit Cards
We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express cards.
Cards must be enabled for recurring e-commerce transactions to work with Netflix.
If you have a prepaid card with a Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express logo, you can enter your card’s information on our payment page. If the bank that issued the card approves our authorization request, we will accept this card for payment.
We no longer support iTunes as a method of payment for new members. Existing members who currently use iTunes as a method of payment can continue to do so.
While Netflix charges monthly, you can add one or more gift cards to your account to cover more than one month of service. You can purchase as many gift cards as you would like, and you will have Netflix service until your gift card balance is consumed.
Netflix only charges the monthly subscription fee, which may or may not include local tax depending on your location. Some financial institutions add additional transaction fees for foreign transactions. These fees are charged by your bank, so if you have questions, please contact your financial institution.
Sign in to the Netflix website and visit your Account to update your Netflix payment information. Some payment options will direct you to their website to complete the update process. See How can I pay for Netflix? above for accepted payment options.
To change your billing date, you’ll need to cancel your account and restart it on the date you’d like to be billed on.
If you cancel in the middle of your billing cycle, the cancellation will not fully complete until the end of that billing cycle, and you will be unable to restart your account until after that time. If your account is on a hold, your cancellation will be effective immediately, and you can restart your account at any time.
Netflix offers a free trial to new Netflix members that provides unlimited access to the Netflix catalog. If you enjoy your free trial, you will be charged after the trial ends. You will not be charged for the trial itself. For more information, visit About Free Trials.
Netflix asks for a payment method to ensure you don't have any interruption in service after the free trial ends. We do this by sending an authorization request to your financial institution to verify that your payment method works. These requests are not charges, but in some cases they may temporarily affect your available account balance.
If you enjoyed your free trial, you will be automatically charged for a monthly subscription and continue to have unlimited access to Netflix when your trial ends. If you canceled your trial before it ended, you will not be charged, and you will no longer have access to the Netflix catalog.
Netflix verifies your payment details when they’re added or updated on an account. This process helps us ensure that the information provided is associated with a valid, open account that can be charged successfully in the future. We validate the information by submitting an authorization for roughly the same amount as the cost of the monthly Netflix membership. These requests are not charges, but the authorization amount may temporarily affect your available balance while your financial institution ensures you have sufficient funds.
When this authorization returns a successful result, we immediately send an automatic reversal requesting that the financial institution remove the authorization from your statement. While the request is immediate, it may take several days to reflect in your account. Check with your financial institution to see when you can expect the funds to be released.
There are a few reasons you may be seeing a charge that was more than you expected.
Taxes - Depending on where you live, you may be charged taxes in addition to your membership price. For more information about tax rates and amounts, see Questions About Tax .
Fees - In some countries, card processors may charge an extra fee for cross-border transactions.
Authorizations - If you've added or changed your method of payment, you may see an authorization for roughly the same amount as the cost of the monthly Netflix membership. These requests are not charges, but may temporarily affect your available balance until your financial institution releases the funds.
Plan change - If you or someone in your household upgraded your Netflix plan, your bill will reflect the upgraded plan price.
If your billing date is scheduled for a date that does not occur in a given month (such as the 31st), you'll be billed on the last day of that month instead.
This message indicates that Netflix was unable to collect a payment because the financial institution rejected the monthly charge. To resolve the issue, sign in to your Netflix account and update or change your payment method. In most cases, this will resolve the issue.
If you're still having trouble updating your account with new payment information, please try a different payment method, or contact your financial institution to ensure your payment information is up to date and supports e-commerce transactions.
