Frequently Asked Questions About Netflix Billing

Netflix is a monthly subscription service that will charge you every month on the date you signed up. If your billing date is scheduled for a date that does not occur in a given month, you'll be billed on the last day of that month instead. Monthly charges are billed at the beginning of your billing cycle and may take a few days after the billing date to appear on your account.

Netflix Gift Cards are available at a variety of retailers.

Why do I see a charge on my card when I signed up for a free trial?

Netflix verifies your payment details when they’re added or updated on an account. This process helps us ensure that the information provided is associated with a valid, open account that can be charged successfully in the future. We validate the information by submitting an authorization for roughly the same amount as the cost of the monthly Netflix membership. These requests are not charges, but the authorization amount may temporarily affect your available balance while your financial institution ensures you have sufficient funds.

When this authorization returns a successful result, we immediately send an automatic reversal requesting that the financial institution remove the authorization from your statement. While the request is immediate, it may take several days to reflect in your account. Check with your financial institution to see when you can expect the funds to be released.

Are there any additional fees associated with the monthly Netflix charge?

Netflix only charges the monthly subscription fee, which may or may not include local tax depending on your location. Some financial institutions add additional transaction fees for foreign transactions. These fees are charged by your bank, so if you have questions, please contact your financial institution.

Why am I seeing a message that there’s a problem with my payment method?

Netflix was unable to collect a payment because the card issuer or financial institution rejected the monthly charge. To resolve the issue, sign in to your Netflix account and update or change your payment method. We will verify the new information, and notify you as soon as the payment is successful.

If you're still having trouble updating your account with new payment information, you may want to reach out to your card issuer or financial institution to ensure the payment information is up to date and supports e-commerce transactions.

How do I update my payment information?

Sign in to the Netflix website and visit your Account to update your Netflix payment information.  Some payment options will direct you to their website to complete the update process. See How can I pay for Netflix? above for accepted payment options.

Note:
If you are being billed through a billing partner and not directly through Netflix, please visit the third party's website to update your payment information.

How do I see my Netflix billing history or monthly invoice?

If you would like to see your billing history, click on Billing Details from your Account page. You can also select individual dates to see and print that month's invoice.

Why am I seeing multiple charges on my statement?

We will only charge you once a month for a Netflix subscription. If you see more charges than you expected, you may be seeing a temporary authorization. We will send an authorization whenever you open a new account or update your payment information. If you did not recently open an account or update your payment information, check your statements for previous unexpected charges. If you have verified with your financial institution that they are actual charges, please click Start Live Chat or Call Us below so we can help you investigate.

How do I change my billing date?

To change your billing date, you’ll need to cancel your account and restart it on the date you’d like to be billed on.

If you cancel in the middle of your billing cycle, the cancellation will not fully complete until the end of that billing cycle, and you will be unable to restart your account until after that time. If your account is on a hold, your cancellation will be effective immediately, and you can restart your account at any time.
