Maturity ratings for TV shows and movies on Netflix

Make informed viewing choices for you and your family with maturity ratings for TV shows and movies on Netflix.

  • Maturity ratings are either set by Netflix or by a local standards organization.

  • Netflix sets maturity ratings by the frequency and impact of mature content in a title, such as the amount of violence, sex, adult language, nudity, or substance use that may be present.

  • Netflix also provides details on the mature content found within a TV show or movie, if applicable.

  • Maturity ratings and advisories found on a TV show’s details page reflect the overall or highest maturity level of the series.

    Note:For TV shows with more than one season, we show the ratings for the season you're watching in the top corner of the screen when first playing the title. These may differ from the show’s overall rating or mature content themes.

  • TV and movie ratings may vary by region.

In your country, Netflix uses the following TV and movie ratings:

You can find a title’s maturity rating:

  • When first playing a title, the rating will appear briefly in the top corner of your screen.

  • On a TV show or movie’s details page. The location of this information may vary by device.

In addition to the rating, you’ll also find details about the content of the title that determined the rating (for example: sex, language, violence, nudity).

To set a maturity rating level for a profile:

Android phone or tablet, iPhone, or iPad

Note: Editing the Maturity Rating level for a Kids profile must be done in a web browser.

  1. Open the Netflix app.

  2. In the lower right, tap My Netflix.

  3. In the upper right, tap the Menu.

  4. Tap Manage Profiles.

  5. Choose the profile you want to edit.

  6. Tap Viewing Restrictions.

  7. Tap Maturity Rating.

  8. Verify your identity by entering your Netflix account password.

    • If you don't have a password for your account, follow the steps under "Web browser" to change your settings instead.

  9. Set the Maturity Rating level you'd like.

  1. Using a browser, go to your Account page.

  2. Select Profiles.

  3. Select Adjust parental controls, then choose a profile.

  4. Verify your identity by entering a code sent to your email or mobile phone number, or by entering your Netflix account password.

  5. Set the Maturity Rating level you'd like.

  6. Choose Save.

Note: Game ratings correspond to the show or movie maturity settings set for the profile. See Maturity ratings for games on Netflix for details.

Profiles with a maturity level set will only display titles that match the selected maturity rating level.
