To watch TV shows and movies on Netflix, we recommended having a stable internet connection with a download speed shown below in megabits per second (Mbps).
Video quality |
Resolution |
Recommended speed |
---|---|---|
High definition (HD) |
720p |
3 Mbps or higher |
Full high definition (FHD) |
1080p |
5 Mbps or higher |
Ultra high definition (UHD) |
4K |
15 Mbps or higher |
The video quality you can get also depends on:
your Netflix plan
the video quality your device supports
your account's data usage setting
If your internet plan has a limit to how much data you can use, you can change or lower the amount of data Netflix uses.
If your internet service provider limits how fast your internet can download, changing your video quality setting might help make your connection more stable.
If you use a mobile device or computer, open a web browser and go to Fast.com.
On other devices, like a TV or streaming stick, you can check your internet speed in the Netflix app:
From the Netflix homescreen, go left to open the menu.
From the bottom of the menu, go right and select Get Help.
Select Check your Network.
If the check fails or shows an error, it usually means your device isn't connected to the internet.
If your internet speed is slower than you expect, contact your internet service provider for help.
Open the Netflix app.
Using your remote, press these buttons in this order:
Up, Up, Down, Down
Left, Right, Left, Right
Up, Up, Up, Up.
Select Check your Network.
If the check fails or shows an error, it usually means your device isn't connected to the internet.
If your internet speed is slower than you expect, contact your internet service provider for help.
