Android phone or tablet doesn't play in HD

If your Android phone or tablet doesn't get the video quality you expect in Netflix, follow these steps.

Check your Netflix plan

To watch Netflix TV shows and movies in HD, you need a plan with HD quality available. You can check your plan under Plan Details on your Account page.

Check playback specification

Widevine L1 is required for HD video in Netflix. To check this:

  1. Open the Netflix app on your Android phone or tablet.

  2. From the upper right corner, tap your profile icon.

  3. Tap App Settings.

  4. Scroll to Diagnostics and tap Playback Specification.

  5. Next to Widevine, check for L1 or L3.

If it shows L3, you'll need to contact your device manufacturer to find out if your Android supports Widevine L1. Widevine L3 Androids can only play Netflix in SD.

If it shows L1 but you're not getting HD video, please contact Netflix Customer Service.
