Android phone or tablet doesn't play in HD

If you're using an Android phone or tablet to watch Netflix but you're not getting the quality you expect, or the video is blurry or grainy, follow the steps below to determine if your device plays in high definition (HD).

Check playback specification

Widevine L1 is required for HD playback in Netflix. To check this:

  1. Open the Netflix app on your Android phone or tablet.

  2. From the bottom right corner, tap More More menu > App Settings.

  3. Scroll to the bottom, then tap Playback Specification.

  4. Next to Widevine, you'll see either L1 or L3.

If you see L3, you'll need to contact your device manufacturer to determine if your device supports Widevine L1. Widevine L3 devices can only play Netflix in SD.

If you see L1 but you're not getting HD playback, please contact Netflix Customer Service.
