Using Netflix on your Android phone or tablet

Welcome to Netflix on your Android phone or tablet! Use this article to learn about Netflix features and how to set up and sign out of your account. If you’re unsure if your device supports Netflix, follow the steps in the “Set up Netflix” section to attempt to locate the Netflix app.

Netflix is available on Android phones and tablets running Android 2.3 or later. The current version of the Netflix app requires Android version 5.0 or later.

Devices running earlier versions of Android OS (as well as the Samsung Galaxy 10.1" Tablet) will be prompted to download a compatible, earlier version of the Netflix app. To download Netflix on your Samsung Galaxy 10.1" Tablet (Model Number: GT-P7500), follow these instructions.

Note:
If your device is rooted or uncertified, you may not be able to download the Netflix app, or it may not function properly. Your device is not being blocked by Netflix, but there may be an issue with the device’s configuration. Contact your device manufacturer to determine if the device is certified and compatible with Netflix.

Supported Regions
Netflix is available on certified Android phones and tablets in all regions where the Netflix service is available.

Navigation
Search for titles by tapping the magnifying glass in the upper right corner of the app. You can also scroll through rows of recommended genres on the home screen, or browse all genres from the menu in the upper left corner. To fast forward or rewind, tap anywhere on the screen, then slide your finger either forward or backward along the progress bar. Press the back button to exit the movie.

Resolution
Android phones and tablets will support streaming in 480p or higher. See our "Netflix in HD" tab for more information.

Subtitles & Alternate Audio
During playback, tap the Subtitles and Alternate Audio icon at the top of the screen to configure subtitles and alternate language audio.

Downloads
Download select titles to watch when you can't be online. See our article about downloads to learn more.

Because a wide variety of devices with different capabilities use the Android OS, certain Android devices are not compatible with the download feature. If you have downloaded the latest version of the Netflix app and are not able to download Netflix content, you will need to use a different device to use this feature.

Netflix is available on Android phones and tablets running Android 2.3 or later. The current version of the Netflix app requires Android version 5.0 or later.

To connect your Android phone or tablet to your Netflix account, make sure you are on the Home screen and follow the steps below.

Note:
These steps may vary slightly if your device was customized by you or the manufacturer. If you are unable to complete the steps below, visit your Android device manufacturer's website.

  1. Open the Play Store app.

  2. Search for Netflix.

  3. Select Netflix from the list of search results.

  4. Tap Install.

  5. The installation is complete when the notification bar at the top of the screen displays Successfully Installed Netflix.

  6. Exit the Play Store.

  7. Find and launch the Netflix app.

  8. Enter your Netflix email and password.

Your device is now connected to your Netflix account. Enjoy!

Note:
The app may request permission to use your device's microphone because the Netflix app allows you to call customer support directly.

To sign out of the Netflix account on your device, follow the steps below.

  1. From within the Netflix app, select the Menu icon ( or ).

  2. Select Sign Out.

  3. Confirm that you would like to sign out of your account.

Note:
If you use Google's SmartLock feature to save passwords to your Google account, you may also need to remove your Netflix credentials from SmartLock. Visit Google's support article on this topic to learn more.
