How to use Netflix on your Nvidia Shield TV Android streaming media player

Use this article to learn about Netflix features on your Nvidia Shield TV Android streaming media player, including how to set up and sign out of your account. If you don't know if Netflix works on your device, follow the steps in the “Set Up Netflix” section.

Netflix is available on select Nvidia Shield TV Android streaming media players. Streaming features on supported devices include:

Supported Regions
Netflix is available on Nvidia Shield TV Android streaming media players in all regions where the Netflix service is available.

Navigation
On most devices, you can browse through rows of TV shows and movies, including a row dedicated to your My List selections. Each row represents a category (such as comedies, dramas, or TV shows) that we show you based on what you’ve watched.

Resolution
Most devices can stream Netflix in high definition on fast internet connections and will play Netflix in the highest supported resolution.

Parental controls
You can set parental controls on individual profiles.

Subtitles & alternate audio
Learn how to turn on subtitles, closed captions, and alternate audio (including 5.1 surround sound), which are available on many TV shows and movies. Many devices let you choose how subtitles and captions look. Some devices show subtitles and captions in their default appearance, or aren't set up to show subtitles.

On some devices, you can also stream select titles with Dolby Atmos audio.

The following Nvidia Shield TV Android streaming media players support Dolby Atmos:

  • Shield TV (2019)

  • Shield TV Pro (2019)

To connect your Nvidia Shield TV Android streaming media player to your Netflix account, make sure you are on the Home screen and follow the steps below.

  1. From the home screen, select Netflix.

  2. Select Member Sign in.

  3. Enter your Netflix email address and password.

  4. Select Continue.

Your device is now connected to your Netflix account.

To sign out of the Netflix account on your device, follow these steps.

  1. Go to the Netflix home screen, then go left to open the menu.

  2. At the bottom, select Get Help > Sign out > Yes.

    Note:
    If you don't see Get Help, go up and select Settings settings icon.

If you can't find Get Help, Settings, or Sign out:

  1. Using your remote, press these buttons in this order: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Up, Up, Up, Up.

  2. On the menu that appears, select Sign out, Start Over, Reset, or Deactivate.

Netflix is available in Ultra HD on all Nvidia Shield TV Android streaming media players. To stream in Ultra HD, you will need:

  • A TV compatible with Ultra HD streaming from Netflix, connected to your Nvidia Shield Android TV via an HDMI port that supports HDCP 2.2 or later (usually the HDMI 1 port).

  • A plan that supports streaming in Ultra HD. You can check which plan you're currently on at netflix.com/ChangePlan.

  • A steady internet connection speed of 25 megabits per second or higher.

  • Streaming quality is set to Auto or High. More information about video quality settings can be found in our Playback Settings article.

Netflix is available in HDR on the Nvidia Shield TV and Nvidia Shield TV Pro. To stream in HDR, you will need:

  • A Netflix plan that supports streaming in Ultra HD.

  • A streaming device that supports either Dolby Vision or HDR and Netflix.

  • A smart TV that supports either Dolby Vision or HDR10 connected to your device via an HDMI port that supports HDCP 2.2 or later (usually the HDMI 1 port).

  • A steady internet connection speed of 15 megabits per second or higher.

  • Streaming quality set to High.
