How to create and edit profiles

Profiles allow different members of your household to have their own personalized Netflix experience. You can have up to five profiles within a single Netflix account.

Profiles are not available on devices produced before 2013.

Each profile allows for its own:

  • Language preference

  • Maturity level

  • Specific viewing restrictions

  • Profile lock

  • Viewing activity log

  • Subtitle appearance

  • Playback settings

  • Personalized TV show and movie suggestions

  • My List*

  • Ratings*

  • Email (for notifications emails, and only profiles with All Maturity ratings)

*Not available on Kids profiles on computers.

If you are using an older device that requires an activation code, you will not be able to create or switch profiles from the device. To ensure that you can watch from your favorite profile, visit the Netflix website, select your favorite profile, and then activate the device on If you later want to change profiles, you will have to sign out on your device and activate it again from your desired profile.

How to create a profile

Most devices will allow you to create a profile. To create a new profile:

  1. Go to your Manage Profiles page. Profiles can be added on devices made after 2013.

  2. Select Add Profile

  3. Name the profile.

  4. To use the Netflix Kids experience, select Kids.

  5. Select Continue. The new profile should show on the list of profiles on your account.

If you can’t create or delete a profile from your device or when using a mobile browser, visit on a computer and follow the steps above.

How to delete or customize a profile

Most devices allow you to customize or delete profiles. To customize or delete a profile:

  1. Access your Manage Profiles page. 

  2. Choose the profile you want to change.

  3. Change the profile's name, image, or language.

    • Changes to maturity ratings must be made from your Account page.

  4. Save your changes or select Delete Profile to delete the profile entirely.

The main profile on your Netflix account cannot be deleted. Once you delete a profile, the viewing history for that profile will no longer be available.

If you are unable to modify a profile from your device or when using a mobile browser, visit on a computer and follow the steps above.

How to use profile & parental controls

All profile users, except for those with the Netflix Kids experience, can access and edit Profile & Parental Controls for individual profiles. Your account password is required to edit Viewing Restrictions or Profile Lock .

To edit settings for an individual profile:

  1. From a web browser, go to your Account page.

  2. Select a profile name from Profile & Parental Controls.

  3. Select Change for the setting you wish to edit for that profile.

  4. Save/Submit changes.

Can a different email address be associated with each profile?

Yes. The first profile created is considered the primary profile and is associated with the email address on your Account.

You can add a different email address to any secondary Adult profile to receive personalized recommendations and other communications from Netflix. Email addresses associated with secondary profiles cannot be used to sign in to your Netflix account.

Follow these steps to add or change the email associated with a secondary profile:

  1. From a web browser, sign in to the profile you want to add an email for.

  2. Go to the Account page.

  3. Select the profile name from Profile & Parental Controls menu you want to add an email for.

    • Next to Profile Email, select Add, or Change if you already added an email.

  4. Enter the desired email for the profile.

  5. Select Add Email.

    • You can select Change Email or Delete Email if you are updating an existing email.

Members in Germany will need to confirm twice to add or change an email.
