How to change or reset your password

Resetting your password

You can reset your password by asking for a reset link to be sent to you by email or text message. (We can only send text messages if you've added a mobile phone number to your Netflix account.) If you can't use your email or phone number, you might be able to use your credit card information.

  1. Go to netflix.com/loginhelp and choose Email.

  2. Enter your email address and click Email Me.

  3. Check your inbox (and spam folder) for the reset email from Netflix.

  4. Open the email and click the Reset your password button. (The reset password link will expire in 24 hours.)

Mail from Netflix for password reset with a cursor clicking the red "Reset your password" button.

  5. Create a new, more memorable password, enter it twice, then click Save.

Note: Your new password can't be the same as your last password. Learn about How to keep your account secure.

  6. We recommend that you leave the Sign out all devices box checked. Then click Save to confirm your new password.

Note: Signing out of all the devices you use to watch Netflix when you switch passwords is better for account security. You'll be able to sign back in with your new password.

You'll see a banner at the top of your Account screen confirming that your password has been changed. You’ll also get a confirmation email.

Didn't get the email

  1. Check for it in your spam, junk, or promotions folders.

  2. If you can't find it in your folders, try adding info@account.netflix.com to your contact list. Then send yourself a password reset email again.

  3. If you still aren't seeing it, your email provider may be causing a delay. Please wait 5 hours, then check your inbox again.

Link doesn't work

  1. Delete any Netflix password reset emails that are in your inbox.

  2. Go to netflix.com/clearcookies. This will sign you out and take you back to the home page.

  3. Go to netflix.com/loginhelp.

  4. Choose Email.

  5. Enter your email address and click Email Me.

  6. Go back to your email and follow the steps in the new Netflix password reset email.

Changing your password

If you know your password and can sign in to Netflix but want to change it, go to the Change password page.

When choosing a password, it should be:

  • Different than what you use for any other websites or apps

  • At least 8 characters long

  • A mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols

  • Not easily guessed - such as “password,” “12345678,” or use any personal information (name, birthday, address)

A password manager can make it easier to keep track of unique passwords.
