If your Android phone or tablet is listed above or uses an HD-compatible chipset but doesn't play in HD, follow these steps.
To play Netflix in HD video quality, Android phones and tablets must use Widevine L1. Widevine allows your Android device to play videos and other content with DRM (digital rights management) protections.
To check your device:
Open the Netflix app.
In the lower right, tap My Netflix
.
In the upper right, tap the Menu
.
Tap App Settings
.
Scroll down to Diagnostics, then tap Playback Specification.
Next to Widevine, look for L1 or L3.
If you see L3, it means your device can only play Netflix in SD video quality. If you believe your device should have Widevine L1, contact the company that made it for help.
If you see L1 and Netflix doesn't play in HD, there might be an issue with your device. Try updating the Netflix app or contact us for help.
Use the options below to see Android phone and tablet models that can play Netflix video in HDR (High Dynamic Range). To learn more about watching Netflix in HDR, go to how to get the best video quality.
