How to get the latest parental controls

If you already use parental controls that apply to your entire Netflix account, you can get the latest version and customize controls for individual profiles.

To get the latest version of parental controls:

  1. From a web browser, go to your Account page.

  2. Open Parental Controls

    • If you don’t see a link for Parental Controls, you already have the latest and can apply controls to each profile. Use Parental controls on Netflix to see your options.

  3. Once you see the New Parental Controls page with details about parental controls for each profile, you can:

    • Choose a maturity level for each profile.

    • Require a PIN to access each profile.

    • Review the list of Restricted Titles for each profile (which will carry over from your existing parental controls).

  4. Click Save.

Note:
Your device may require a refresh to pick up the updated settings. To refresh:
Switch to another profile, then switch back.
Or, sign out of your device and sign back in.

Why am I being prompted to update parental controls?

To give families more control over the TV shows, movies, and games kids watch or play, you can apply your parental controls to each profile rather than to your entire Netflix account.

If you prefer to keep using a single PIN to restrict viewing across the entire account, click Cancel instead of applying controls to each profile.

Why am I NOT being prompted to use parental controls on each profile?

If you have never used parental controls, or started using them after updated features became available, then there is no need to change. You can start using parental controls on any of your Netflix profiles.

Can I keep my single account PIN for parental controls?

Yes. To keep using a single PIN to restrict viewing across the entire account, click Cancel instead of applying controls to each profile.

You will continue to be prompted to enter your parental control PIN to stream anything above your allowed maturity rating, but will not be able to make changes without updating to the latest version. To update to profile-level controls, go to your account’s Parental Controls at any time.

Can I get my old PIN protection back if I update?

No. Once you update to customize parental controls for each profile, there isn’t an option to use a single PIN for the entire account. You can create a PIN to control access to certain profiles using Profile Lock.
